Mursi must return and stage referendum

An Iranian lawmaker believes that stability may be only restored in Egypt once the ousted president Muhammad Mursi is back to power and referendum is staged to decide the future.

Ahmad Bakhshayeshi Ardestani was speaking to Quds News Agency (Qudsna).

The lawmaker said the 2011 Egyptian revolution failed to complete, adding that Mursi lost many supporters after failing to meet their expectations on living conditions. “The Tamarod Movement was brewed through the discontent,” he said, adding that the public discontent was hijacked by liberals and pro-Mubarak elements.

The lawmaker said the Muslim Brotherhood would rather agree to stage a referendum to ask whether people allow him to stay in power or not.

The Iranian parliamentarian also pointed to Mursi’s dependence on Qatar and Saudi Arabia as another mistaken policy of the ousted president, adding that the Saudi move to be the first stat to congratulate Mursi’s ouster means that the Saudi authorities have no faith in election or its outcome that is Muslim Brotherhood.

The parliamentarian described the Egyptian army’s measure in ousting Mursi as a soft coup, adding that the status quo in Egypt was more in favor of Israel.

The lawmaker maintained that if a referendum is staged by the Egyptian army on the future of the country, it means that the revolution in the country has hit a deadlock.

The lawmaker added however that the current developments would help promote awareness among the Egyptian people, adding that the people will not tolerate a military rule over their fate in the long run.
