US settling for minimum targets in Syria

An Iranian expert in regional affairs says the US delay in assaulting Syria shows that the country never favors a yet another prolonged war and has readied itself to settle for minimum targets.

Hadi Ajili told Qudsna that US president Barak Obama in his new administration sought to manage the situation in Syria from behind the scene through proxy wars so that the country sustains the least of damages it may sustain in direct actions.

The expert said the US has declared use of chemical weapons as a red line and it deserved deliberating why the Ghouta chemical attack took place at time when the UN chemical inspectors where in the country. The expert said the simultaneity shows that the US sought to change the situation on the ground and prepare for a war on Syria.

The expert said the US has decided to wrap up an attack in a few hours so that it could contain the likely repercussions of war, adding however the US would not be the one to wrap up any assault on Syria.

“The US never seeks a prolonged war; it only seeks to change the situation on the ground in favor of the Syrian opposition,” the expert said.
