Geneva deal, not lever against Palestine
An Iranian expert in West Asian affairs says the US Secretary of State John Kerry has apparently perceived the Geneva nuclear deal with Iran could be a lever to press the Palestinians to bow to a compromise with Israel.
Hossein Kanani Moqaddam was speaking with Qudsna on the US foreign minister’s new initiative for the PA-Israel talks.
The expert said the Geneval nuclear deal would never act as a lever for pushing the compromise, arguing that the initiative has failed to meet the Palestinian demands and fulfill their rights.
The expert elaborated that the new initiative has failed to cite the Israeli judazation policy, illegal settlement expansion, Gaza siege, independent Palestinian army, and recognition of UN-approved borders, among others.
“John Kerry has apparently thought the time is ripe after the Geneva deal to press the Palestinian people and resistance groups to sit a negotiation table that actually serves the Zionist regime’s interests, however, the call of resistance continues to be heard from Palestinians,” the analyst said.
Asked about the suggestion of several PA authorities that a Geneva-like conference be organized for resolving the Palestinian issue, the expert said the idea was irrelevant. “The idea is irrelevant. Palestinian nation would never sit talks with occupiers who have usurped their land and have murdered their compatriots. On the other hand, we sat the Geneva talk to underline our rights to peaceful nuclear technology,” he argued.
The expert then cautioned that the west would abuse an existing rift among Palestinians. “Some Palestinians are after compromise and some after political talks for their own survival; the west would always set a greedy eye at the Palestinian discord in favor of their own interests,” the expert said.
