Gaza government unable to pay salaries

Gaza government has been unable to pay the salaries of its staff, Sama reported Sunday, quoting an aide to the Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniya.

Esam D’alis said the recent developments in the Arab countries have badly affected the financial status of the Gaza government.

He said certain Arab states have voiced readiness to send aid and money to Gaza however the siege on Gaza is a stumbling block.

The aide said the Israeli siege on Gaza that started seven years ago has been compounded by the Egyptian pressures following the ouster of former president Muhammad Mursi.

Da’alis warned about an imminent humanitarian crisis due to the closure of the Rafah crossing on the border with Egypt.

The aide urged the Egyptian authorities to open the crossing to goods and travelers, adding that to keep open the crossing for one day a week would not resolve any problems of Palestinian patients.
