PA talks, no demand of Palestinian nation

Envoy of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad says the current regional conditions have helped set the ground for the US to push the compromising talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel to a superficial end.

Naser Abu Sharif told Qudsna that the new round of talks by no means was the demand of the Palestinian nation and the Islamic ummah.

The Palestinian personality said an expanding split within the Palestinian nation and the rest of the Muslim world, helping the US and Israel to push their projects. “The split has led to a political indecision,” Abu Sharif said, adding that many countries that previously pursued the Palestinian issue are now engulfed in international problems.

The Palestinian diplomat added however that the US push would end up in failure for several reasons. “First of all, Palestinian people are mostly against the talks,” the envoy said, adding that Israel too has pushed up the ceiling of its demands in the talks by demanding large swathe of the occupied al-Quds and the occupied West Bank.

The envoy also touched on the Israeli demand for recognition of Israel as a Jewish State and its proposal for land for refugees swap as other reasons to push the talks to failure.

The envoy noted that Israel is in no hurry in the talks as the protraction of the talks is actually in its favor.

The envoy also said Israel was looking forward to the PA withdrawal of the key demand of refugee return.
