UN invite withdrawal, a major gain for Iran
An Iranian expert in East Asian (Middle East) affairs suggests that the Islamic Republic has gained a large political gain by not becoming committed to decisions of the Geneva2 conference on Syria.
Iran would not sit the conference after the UN withdrew its invitation under the US pressure.
Hassan Hanizadeh told Qudsna that the conference is staged at time when the initiative in the field is in the hand of armed Syrian forces and the Syrian government enjoys a favorable self-confidence.
The expert said the Geneva2 conference would not bear positive results and looks doomed in light of multitude of problems and differences among the internal, regional and trans-regional players.
The expert said the UN Secretary General's decision to withdraw his invitation to Iran showed that the UN chief has no personal influence in the issue, adding that the move dealt a blow to the UN credit.
"A UN chief who could not take a decision outside the western influence, could not resolve so large a crisis in Syria either," Hanizadeh said.
The expert noted that the conference would no longer bear any commitment for Iran, allowing Iran to stand alongside the Syrian government and nation more robustly than before.
The expert said Syria principally suffers from the existence of terror groups which are sponsored by Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
