Zaken: I can land Olmert in prison
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's erstwhile confidante and bureau chief Shula Zaken, who earlier this week said she was willing to become a state witness in the Holyland trial and testify against her former boss, has reportedly told her associates that she had information that could guarantee his conviction.
"If I open my mouth, that's it; he's going to serve time," Channel 2 quoted Zaken as saying on Thursday, a day after she said she was willing to testify against her former boss in the corruption trial.
Zaken dropped a bombshell on Wednesday when she said she would be willing to testify against her former boss as part of a plea bargain.
The high-profile trial has had both Olmert and Zaken named as defendants for their roles in approving a gargantuan housing project in 'Jerusalem' (occupied al-Quds) more than a decade ago.
"I held off on calling him corrupt until he began accusing me of corruption. I will put everything out there in the open. I will also reveal new things. I haven't done anything independently or without his instructions. But unlike him, I kept my part of our alliance and friendship until the very end," Zaken said.
Zaken lamented that she had been Olmert's "fallguy for years on end," noting that she "remained silent during interrogations and claimed responsibility for his conduct."
But she said his latest accusations have crossed a line. "Roy Blecher [Olmert's attorney] has recently accused me of being a liar. They want to have me take the fall for everything. I have been alongside Olmert ever since I turned 17. I was loyal and dedicated," she said.
"He has said I am corrupt. But who was my mentor? He taught me all this corruption business."
