Israel facing critical months ahead

Qodsna; Mohammadali Takht Ravandeh:

Over one year into the Palestinian intifada, the region is witnessing a rare fluctuating situation with Israel on back to back failures.

Israeli analysts expected the intifada that started on October 1, 2015 to slow down in the first few weeks however Palestinians set a bright record by marking the first anniversary of the campaign with a lightning operation that left an Israeli trooper dead. Mesbah abu Subaih who carried out the operation actually left no room for Israelis to speak of an end to the intifada, rather they should now talk about the morphing of the intifada into a full blown armed struggle.

Another source of fluctuation came from the PA head’s decision to cancel the municipal elections in the occupied Palestine. The choice was the best for him and Israel as polls showed his favored list would receive no public trust. Mahmoud Abbas even turned more unfavorable by his attendance in the funeral of the former Israeli president, Shimon Peres.

Israel also failed in the international scene facing a growing Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement as well as a UNESCO resolution against its claims to the occupied al-Quds and a UNSC session on the illegal settlements.

Months ahead seem to be more critical for Israel having had to battle a growing armed intifada and an intensifying international hate.
