Kuwaiti minister’s visit to Tehran, effort to save Saudi from mire
Qodsna; Hossein Rouyvaran:
Analysts view the recent visit to Tehran of the Kuwaiti Foreign Minster, Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Sabah as a liaison effort for mending the ties between Saudi government and Iran that morphed into differences between the Persian Gulf littoral states and Iran as the states chose to follow Saudi line of policy.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has already signaled that the Islamic Republic would pursue mending ties with Saudi once the Saudi government takes the first step in mending its interventionist policy in the region.
And, Saudi needs a mending of ties as it faces several problems including a change in the US establishment and the coming of Trump Administration that is said to be bidding lesser support to the Saudi rulers than Obama Administration.
Saudi government has also got stuck in the mire of war on Yemen that has already inflicted heavy losses on the country’s economy and dented the country’s image in the international scene as a major violator of human rights, pushing it towards isolation.
Saudi also experienced back to back failure in its regional policy, especially in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.
The Saudi government actually has found it inevitable to mend its line of policy in an effort to escape the imbroglio.
Kuwaiti minister’s visit appears to be a first step.
