Durban 2, scandal for so-called advocates of human rights
Durban Review conference started in Geneva on Saturday with a central theme of combat against racism. The conference is a sequel to Durban conference held in South Africa in 2001. This edition of conference is aimed to review the ratifications of the previous conference and approve new ratifications.
The conference has proved a litmus test for the Western countries which claim advocacy to the human rights issues at the backdrop but failed to support the conference.
The conference is held within the UN human rights framework however the European countries and the US have boycotted the conference under the excuse that the final declaration of the conference is pointed towards the Zionist regime and condemns its crimes.
The stance proved that issues of human rights, anti-racism combat and cooperation with UN are only tools in their hands to gain certain goals so that as soon as they deem it essential they would run counter to these issues.
Durban 2 conference might bear little headway with the possible removal of anti-Zionist clauses of its final treaty under the western pressure however it helped prove that the USA and west never hold to their international commitments and only consider the interests of the Zionist regime in defining their ties with other countries. Their conduct carries the lesson that the Palestinians are wrong if they pin hope in international community for achieving their rights.
It was also a defeat for the compromise minded force in the Middle East which seeks help in the Western camp to restore ME rights.
