Israel bars Jolan families from get-together

The Syrian Arab Republic urged the UN to pressure the Zionist regime to allow Syrians living in the occupied Jolan areas (dubbed Golan by the regime) to visit relatives in their motherland.

Foreign Minister Walid Muallem indicated that such compulsive and oppressive prevention of the Jolan families would further their sufferings and constitutes a flagrant violation of the duties of the occupation authorities.

"Israel's ban on residents of occupied Syrian Jolan visiting their families and parents in their homeland of Syria, as called for by international law and the Declaration of the Rights of Man, increases the suffering of the inhabitants under occupation," Muallem demanded in a letter.

The minister also underlined that the Zionist regime still refuses to return the area to Syria and did not respond to relevant UN resolutions to establish a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

UN resolutions 242 and 338 call for Zionists to return Arab territories it occupied in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, which includes the Jolan areas.
