France condemns Israeli settlement plans

France on Friday condemned the building of over 1,000 new housing units in two West Bank settlements.

“This illegal action contradicts the US government’s efforts helped by us to re-launch the peace process,” a foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement.

The statement called on the Israeli government to reverse the plans.

“These developments show that current situation is unsustainable,” the statement added.

France called the two parties to start “credible” negotiations without preconditions.
