Protests in Nablus against high cost of living

For the first time since the new government was sworn in, Palestinian protestors took to the streets Saturday in Nablus in the northern West Bank urging the government to bring an end the skyrocketing costs of living.
The protesters waved banners asking the Palestinian Authority government to reduce the Value Added Tax, to improve prices and to subsidize basic goods.
A Palestinian People’s Party representative, Khalid Mansour, told Ma’an that the rally was a “message to the (Rami) Hamdallah government telling him we were disappointed by his comments highlighting that he will follow in the former government’s footsteps.”
Their policies starved us, he added. Mansour added that the protesters demanded the cancellation of a recent decision to increase the VAT.
“We are here to demand zero taxation on all basic goods, and we call upon President (Mahmoud) Abbas to reconsider the Paris Protocol, or even disavow it completely.” The Paris Protocol is an agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority governing economic relations.
