Israel talks designed to dent resistance

A senior pro-Palestinian activist in Iran believes that the current so-called 'peace' talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel are designed to undermine the option of resistance by giving trivial concessions to Palestinian side.

Head of the Intifada and Quds Campaign, Ramezan Sharif told Qudsna that from the day Palestine was occupied, any compromising mood on the Palestinian side has been supported by the Zionist regime and its western allies.

The senior activist said the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran helped return the option of resistance and its advocates to the vanguard of struggle against the Zionist regime. "It practically nullified any agreements already made with the Zionist regime," he said.

The pro-Palestinian activist said the revolution ushered in two major developments. "For one thing, the revolutionary leader Imam Khomeini deemed it a religious duty for the Islamic umma to support the Palestinian cause," the activist said.

Sharif added a second significant development was the Imam's designation of the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as international day of Quds, issuing a worldwide call for anti-Israeli and pro-oppressed demonstrations.

The senior activist said the Zionist regime has conceded to holding talks as it knows it is unable to stand against the mainstream Palestinian resistance. The activist added however that the freedom of a group of Palestinian captives in lieu for more Jewish settlements amounted to an insult to and humiliation of the Palestinian nation.

The activist said the world is no longer in dark about the real aims of the Zionist regime and its allies in promoting the so-called 'peace' talks. "They merely seek to solidify the regime while denting the position of resistance in the public opinion," Sharif said, adding that the pro-Israeli camp seeks to present negotiations with Israel as a major solution for the Palestinian side.
