Why was Syria attacked?

A prominent Syrian journalist says two years into the Syrian crisis everyone has come to know that the country has become the target of a big international conspiracy led by the US, France, and Britain.

Mohraz al-Ali, head of the political board in the Syrian al-Thura daily told Qudsna that the conspiracy has several goals including to safeguard the Israeli security and to dominate the regional wealth.

The journalist said modern colonial governments seek to deal a blow to the regional axis of resistance under the veneer of defense of freedom and democracy.

He said the significant geopolitics of Syria has promoted the two years of conspiracies.

"Syria has always stood up to the western and Israeli plots that are aimed at disintegrating the regional countries; the White House had vowed the disintegrating policy during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 2006," the journalist said.

The Syrian journalist also said his country played a useful role in the victory of the regional resistance during the 33-day Lebanon war in 2006 as well as the Palestinian 22-day war against Israel in 2008-9.

As for the Syrian government's determination to keep the regional integrity in the past, the journalist revealed that the government at some point had rejected an Israeli proposal to swap the Golan Height for a small area ihn the eastern coast of Tabaria lake.

"Damascus is paying the price of keeping resistance," the al-Ali said, adding that the nation has already stood up to the conspiracy thank to the assistance of Iran, China and Russia.
