Tension rising between Hamas and Egypt

An Iranian expert in regional affairs Hossein Rooyvaran says the Hamas movement is going to have to pay the price of the Muslim Brotherhood’s strained relations with the interim Egyptian authorities.

The expert told Qudsna that Hamas has faced a paradox since the Syrian crisis broke out as it was connected to the regional resistance on the one hand and maintained partisan relations with the Muslim Brotherhood on the other while the latter formed part of the anti-Syrian government force.

The expert added that the current situation in Gaza is related to the coming to power of the MB party in Egypt. “Following the overthrow of the party in Egypt, Hamas has had to pay the price,” he said.

As for the recent threats of the interim Egyptian authorities against Hamas, the expert said the authorities has barred fuel and foodstuff from entering Gaza citing allegatons that Hamas was training the MB forces and lets them flee Egypt through the Gaza-Sinai tunnels.

“The siege on Gaza has become even more water-tight than the era of Hosni Mubarak,” the expert said, adding that all the lifeline tunnels between Gaza and Egypt are subject to destruction.

The expert said the Egyptian authorities are not ready to believe the Hamas stance that it is not seeking to intervene in the internal Egyptian affairs.

The expert warned that the prospects of Hamas-Egypt ties are gloomy.
