Geneva2 talk, a failure without Iran

An Iranian political expert says the western governments have realized that the non-presence of Iran in the prospective Geneva2 talk will make the situation in Syria even worse for the pro-western parties in the country.

Hussein Kanani Moqddam told Qudsna that the Geneva1 talk in 2012 ended up in failure as it ignored Iran, adding that all parties attending the talk knew that in absence of Iran, little advance would be made in the Syrian issue.

The analyst touched on the Lakhdar Brahimi’s visit to Iran and said, the UN and AL representative has realized that without Iran, the efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis would reach nowhere.

The expert noted however that Iran would not concede to the western side’s precondition that it first accept the Geneva1 talk’s final statement before sitting talk at the Geneva2 as it considers a Syria 2014 election without Bashar Assad. “Iran believes that any idea concerning Syria must be decided on by the Syrian people and not an outside party,” the expert said.

The expert maintained that without Iran, the situation would turn worse for the so-called western-Arab axis in Syria.
