Abbas congratulates new Israeli Labor chief

Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas on Monday phoned newly-elected Labor Party chairman Isaac Herzog to congratulate him on his election.

Herzog was elected as the party chairman after defeating the outgoing chairwoman Shelly Yachimovich in the election which was held on Thursday.

The Labor party favors Israeli talks with the Palestinian Aauthority

Herzog, a current Knesset member and a former minister, received 58% of the votes in the elections.
