PA undercutting national reconciliation efforts

Deputy speaker of the Palestinian parliament, Ahmad Bahr says the waves of arrests of Palestinian activists by the PA security forces in the West Bank would undercut the push for national reconciliation among the Palestinian groups.

The Palestinian official also slammed the PA for barring the Palestinian parliament speaker, Aziz Dweik from arriving in his office in the West Bank and called it an outcome of the Oslo agreement between the Palestinian Authority and Israel.

Bahr said the Oslo security agreement only serves the Zionist regime of Israel.

The senior parliamentarian said the PA has kept its security cooperation with the Zionist regime, including by re-arresting the former Palestinian captives who have been released by Israel under prisoner swap deals.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) security apparatuses arrested five Hamas supporters and summoned two others in the West Bank.

In al-Khalil, the Preventive Security Service (PSS) arrested liberated captive and former political detainee Mahmoud Oweiwi from his workplace in the city, and another liberated prisoner Hudhaifah Awawda from Dura, after summoning him.

Student at al-Khalil University and liberated prisoner Abdul Rahman Abu Arqoub has continued for the ninth day his open hunger strike in Jericho jail, in protest at his continued detention.

PA security services stormed the house of the student Mohammed Abu Arqoub for the fifth time in two weeks searching for him, after he had been refusing to respond to the summonses he received.

In Ramallah, two students at Birzeit University announced starting an open-ended hunger strike; to protest against the intelligence service's refusal to release them.
