Zionist regime, largest ME threat

A member of the Palestinian Fatah movement in the Legislative Assembly, Saham Sabet says one should thank Iran and the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini for their measure to cut ties with Israel early on the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

A newly-established Islamic Republic in a first major diplomatic measure shut down the then Israeli embassy in Tehran in 1979 before handing it to Palestinian activists.

Sabet told Qudsna that the measure showed how highly Imam Khomeini considers Palestine and the al-Aqsa Mosque.

The female lawmaker said the Imam knew that the Zionist regime was the largest threat facing Islam and Muslims.

"Imam Khomeini was a smart politician in the true sense," the Fath member said, adding that Iran's move to cut off the toehold of Israel in Iran was a strategic move. The lawmaker called on other Arab states to follow the suit.

As for the PA-Israel talks, the lawmaker said the Palestinian nation objects to grant any concessions to Israel. The lawmaker warned however that if Muslims fail to support the PA head Mahmoud Abbas, he may cave under the US and Israeli pressures.
