IRI considers Israel as illegitimate

At time when the world has left the Palestinian nation alone in the face of the Zionist regime, the Islamic Revolution of Iran embraced the nation and spared no effort in restoring the Palestinian rights, a senior Palestinian lawmaker notes.

Hassan Kharisheh was speaking to Qudsna answering a question about his views on the Iranian move to shut down the Israeli embassy in Tehran in 1979.

A newly-established Islamic Republic in a first major diplomatic measure shut down the then Israeli embassy in Tehran in 1979 before handing it to Palestinian activists.

The deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council said the shutdown move was a start to the Islamic Republic's strategic support to the Palestinian nation.

The Palestinian lawmaker said the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini adopted the move to indicate that the IRI does not consider the Zionist regime as a legitimate entity.

Kharisheh said the shutdown would remain in the memory of the Palestinian nation as a fateful event.

In another regard, the lawmaker noted that enemies sought to use the Hamas-Iran differences over Syria as an excuse to discourage Iran from supporting Palestine however Iran adopted a logical stance and kept its support to the Palestinian nation.

The lawmaker said unlike the US and its allies' efforts to play down the threat of Israel for the region, most Palestinians consider the US and its allies as foes challenged by the Iranian-led axis of resistance that includes Hezbollah and Syria.

The lawmaker highlighted Iran's move in designating an annual day for support to the Palestinian nation as a major foreign policy move by the Islamic Republic. Iran in 1980 designated the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan (the International Quds Day) as the day for voicing support to the Palestinian nation.
