Crisis still on at major Israeli hospital

The Histadrut (General Labor Federation in Israel) said Sunday that it would postpone protests over the Israeli government’s failure to resolve the deepening financial straits at Hadassah Medical Organization.

Workers at two related medical centers are preparing a plan, including working according to an emergency schedule and “going to the streets, according to Avi Nissenkorn, the Histadrut’s deputy secretary-general.

“The Treasury and Health Ministry must find an immediate solution. This is the time to end the crisis and save Hadassah,” he said.

The union official, after meeting with representatives of the nurses’ and administrative workers, said they would hold off sanctions until Tuesday if no progress is made with the government.

“We will not allow hospital to be dismantled,” he said. If necessary, thousands of hospital workers will demonstrate" around Israel, he added.
