EU ambassador backs Palestinian reconciliation

EU Ambassador to Israel, Lars Faaborg-Andersen says a pact of reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas movements in Palestine is a positive move as it opens the way for promoting democracy in Palestine.

Akka Online quoted the ambassador as saying that the pact would be the only way to stage election in Palestine.

The EU ambassador said the European Union expected a future Palestinian state to recognize Israel as a Jewish State and block any anti-Israeli operations.

The ambassador also said the EU has for years sought an inter-Palestinian reconciliation as it believes PA peace with Israel would not be materialized in the absence a national rapprochement among Palestinians.

The EU ambassador then slammed the Zionist regime for abandoning the PA talks and for imposing sanctions on the Authority. Anderson expressed hope the talk would be resumed soon and the two sides avoid taking one-sided decision that he said would further complicate the situation.
