West seeks to weaken regional resistance
Syrian Ambassador to Tehran has reaffirmed that what happens now in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine was a US-Zionist project that aims to deal a blow to the regional resistance and have the Palestinian issue abandoned by the Muslim communities.
The Syrian ambassador also urged the regional nations to follow the path of resistance against the western conspiracy.
Adnan Mahmoud was speaking in a session in Tehran entitled “Quds will liberate us.”
The Syrian envoy said the western countries seek to downplay the Palestinian issue by drawing the attention of the regional nations to their internal differences.
The senior diplomat said the western governments distort realities by calling the terrorist ISIL group as a revolutionary group, adding that the ISIL killings of innocent people in the region is the other face of the Israeli conspiracies for weakening the regional resistance.
The Syrian ambassador said his country paid the price of supporting the regional resistance against the West, adding however that Damascus was able to counter the Zionist regime and the US projects. The ambassador cited the remarks of the deputy US secretary of state at the start of the Syrian crisis that the conflict would end if Syria cuts ties with the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah and expels Palestinian groups from its soil.
The Syrian ambassador then touched on the recent presidential election in the country and said the turnout of over 70 percent of the Syrian people shows how they support the regional resistance.
He also said the Palestinian issue would remain a foreign policy priority for the Syrian government, adding that Syria will keep its support for the innocent Palestinians until they liberate their land from the claws of the occupying Israel.
