Palestinian personality: 1979 Islamic Revolution was landmark

A senior member of the Palestinian Hamas movement says the 1979 Islamic Revolution was a landmark event since it overthrew a western ally and brought to office an Islamic leader.

Mahmoud Zahar was speaking to the Qods News Agency few days ahead of the 36^th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

“Before the Islamic revolution, Iran was serving the western interests however it turned into an influential country in the region and a key supporter of the regional resistance,” Zahar said, adding that the international development was fruitful for the Palestinian issue.

The Palestinian leader called the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini a great leader whose sagacious leadership steered Iran towards its new regional position.

Asked about Imam Khomeini’s view of Israel as a cancerous tumor, the Palestinian personality called it insightful, arguing that Israel would spread its hostile mood to its neighbors like a cancerous tumor unless it is removed.
