1979 revolution freed Iran from hold of western circles of power
An American journalist says the 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran was exceptional as it set free a country that was earlier considered as property of circles of power in the West.
Caleb Maupin was speaking to the Qods News Agency in Tehran on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the landmark revolution that is set to be marked on February 11.
“For decades, Wall Street, Shell Oil, and British Petroleum, considered Iran to be their personal property. The circles of power in London, Tel-Aviv, and Wall Street assumed they could have control Iran, its people, and its natural resources,” the journalist said, adding that their assumptions proved to be wrong by the Iranian popular uprising.
The journalist described the revolution as “an explosion that shook the world,” adding that the revolution showed if a nation could slip out of the fingers of the Western circles of power, so could the entire world.
“The revolution did not follow the model of previous revolutions. It was not directed by the Soviet Union, or any foreign power. It followed a course chosen by the Iranian people alone, impressing on the world the importance of self-determination and independence,” Maupin added.
The US journalist described the Islamic Republic as “a fortress of resistance to imperialism and Zionism,” adding that the revolutionary foundation “put oil resources into the hands of the Iranian people, who used them to begin a course of independent economic development.”
A senior activist in the Occupy Wall Street movement in the US, Maupin said Iran has turned into “a strong part of the Axis of Resistance that is opposing the Israelis and Wall Street monopolists in the Middle East.”
“The Islamic Republic is a friend to … forces that seek a world free from domination by western imperialists and Zionists. Wherever people are fighting against neocolonialism and imperialism, the Islamic Republic of Iran is a friend,” he affirmed.
Concerning the Palestinian issue, the US journalist said the Iranian revolution was a victory for the Palestinians as it gave them a very important ally to champion their cause.
One of the famous remark of Imam Khomeini is that “Israel is a cancerous tumor and should be uprooted from the region”, how do you consider the process of destruction of Israel after Islamic Revolution?
The US journalist also approved of the renowned view of the late father of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini that Israel has grown as a cancerous tumor in the body of the Muslim community. Maupin believed that the sole way to achieve justice in Palestine is for Israel to be formally eliminated before a new society s created on its ruins “where Palestinians can return to their own country, and all living in it have equal rights.”
The journalist also called for the trial of Israeli officials and military leaders for crimes against humanity.
