Netanyahu forming fragile government

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has formed an eleventh-hour coalition government with 61 seats of the 120-seat Israeli parliament, preventing his political chances from sliding into the hands of the leftist members of the parliament.

Netanyahu declared early election last year in a bid to forma more homogenous government that would support his policies concerning the Palestinian issue as well as the Iranian nuclear talks. The new government however faces a slew of problems, most importantly a fragile majority in the parliament; a vote against would be enough to take down any legislation Netanyahu would seek to approve, keeping his bids teetering on the brink and fomenting excessive demands among his opponents.

A next important problem is that many key posts in the coalition government have remained undecided, keeping the specter of internal clashes among political parties who have joined the government but may not easily back off from their demands.

The makeup of Netanyahu government may also cause problems for his relations with the western governments as it largely follows the sort of hardline policies that run counter to the western policies.

Netanyahu is expected to embark on adventurous policies in the region in a bid to push his crises under the carpet. He may also seek to aggrandize on security issues in a bid to gag his opponents.

Nevertheless, the coalition government is too fragile to survive the problems for a full four-year term.
