Shame if Aqsa is left alone
Palestinian Islamic Jihad representative in Tehran says latest polls show most Palestinians support the ongoing anti-occupation struggle, especially an armed approach towards it.
Naser Abu Sharif was speaking to a panel discussion on ways to support the ongoing Palestinian intifada co-organized by the Iranian Society in Defense of the Palestinian Nation (SDPN) and the Qods News Agency (Qodsna).
The Palestinian figure noted that anti-occupation resistance have helped Palestinian united, adding Palestinian unity has sustained blows as soon as resistance fell in intensity.
The Palestinian envoy said the anti-occupation resistance was threatened by those who claim it is futile and those who consider it as a blow to alleged Oslo achievements.
Abu Sharif said however that the intifada must materialize te goal of liberation of Palestine, adding the goal would be met only once the Palestinian movements adopt a unanimous strategy.
The Palestinian figure regretted that the PA head Mahmoud Abbas has yet to approve the intifada, adding it was a mistake to compare him to the Indian Figure Gandhi. “Gandhi was a key figure behind a civil disobedience movement in India,” Abu Sharif argued, adding the two personalities would not be compared.
The Palestinian figure also noted that Muslims have a duty to support the Palestinian intifada, adding certain rulers in the Muslim community have blocked any supports for the Palestinian cause.
“That would be a shame if the al-Aqsa mosque is left alone,” he said.
Abu Sharif regretted that while Muslims have failed to offer an appropriate support to Palestine, Jews are issuing blanket checks for the purchase of Palestinian property in the occupied al-Quds ('Jerusalem').
The Palestinian envoy also warned about a Fifth Column group inside the Muslim community that seeks to sideline the Palestinian issue from the list of priorities of the world of Islam.
