Palestinian issue, top on agenda of Islamic Revolution

Unlike other revolutions in the world, the Islamic Revolution of Iran is not restricted to time and place. It is like fresh water spring which, despite the passage of over three and a half decades, is still a model for the oppressed nations of the world.

Iran’s Islamic revolution was the uprising of the barefooted. It was not based on just economic issues and was not staged to just restore the rights of the oppressed trampled by corrupt rulers, but it was based on religious and moral values and teachings. For this reason, the researchers and thinkers who studied the revolution have named it “a cultural revolution.”

It is this very cultural aspect that takes it beyond time and place. The Islamic revolution has international ideals and objectives. Support for the oppressed people of the world, struggle against arrogance and spread of divine values are the great objectives of the Islamic revolution. Imam Khomeini started the revolution with the Qur’anic literature.

The Global Arrogance led by the US, the oppressed people of the world, confrontation between justice and oppression and conflict between the deprived and the looters were the words and expressions used by the late Imam. In practice also, the Imam served the deprived and the downtrodden classes and communities with all his power.

Support for the oppressed and the deprived, struggle against injustice and bullying, striving for equality and so on were the objectives of Imam Khomeini which had extended the Islamic revolution beyond the geographical borders of the Islamic Iran and connected it with not only all Islamic movements but all liberating uprisings.

Imam Khomeini said, “We support the oppressed, whoever is oppressed anywhere we support him. The Palestinians are oppressed and the Israelis have oppressed them, so we support them.” Efforts for the formation of a single front of the oppressed were among the basic axes of the political thought of Imam Khomeini (God’s mercy upon his soul).

Imam Khomeini said, “The oppressed of the world, those who are under the US dominance or other powers, if they do not wake up and do not be united, the Satanic dominance will not be removed and we should all try to materialize unity among the oppressed with any creed.”

One of the obvious examples of the oppressed nations is the oppressed nation of Palestine. In this regard, Imam Khomeini said, “Today the oppressed nation of Palestine is the evident proof of the oppression. Therefore, it is obligatory for all world Muslims to rush to help the oppressed and brave Palestinians and help them reach their high ideal. Now that the brave and revolutionary Muslims of Palestine with high morale and Godly cries have launched the uprising from the place where Prophet Mohammad (SAWA) went to the heaven on the night of ascension and have called upon the Muslims to knit ranks in the face of global paganism, could we remain indifferent to this Godly campaign? Now that the blood of the dear Palestinian youths has been splashed on the walls of Al-Aqsa mosque and in response to their just and legitimate demands, they have been answered with machine gun and treasonous punches, is it not a shame for the dignified Muslims not to respond to the cries of the oppressed or to express sympathy with them?”

After the passing away of Imam Khomeini, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, too, stressed the continuation of the Imam’s path in support for the oppressed. In this regard, Ayatollah Khamenei says, “The Islamic revolution was staged for materializing political, economic, social and cultural program of Islam in Iran and in the international relations with reliance on Islamic teachings, dismissing the oppressive system of the domineering powers and pursuing peace, security and prosperity of all nations. That’s why the world domineering powers have had a challenge with the Islamic system and this reality should never be forgotten.”

Regarding the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the oppressed and deprived people, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “The Great Satan, the US, is seeking to create a global dictatorship and by trampling the natural rights of nations has actually become a rebel; but it calls the noble Iranian nation as rebellious. If confrontation with the world oppressors and bullies and support for the oppressed is considered rebellion we are proud of it.”

Based on the leadership of Imam Khomeini (God’s mercy upon his soul) and Ayatollah Khamenei the main axis of the Islamic Republic of Iran's foreign policy is "Support for the world oppressed especially Muslims".
