France’s ‘peace’ offer, last ditch effort to stop intifada

PA head Mahmoud Abbas has urged more efforts to advance a ‘peace’ offer by France, Palestinian website Naba Press says, adding Egypt and the Arab League have also joined their force in favor of the seemingly well-wishing initiative.

The daily noted however that the so-called initiative has come amid an Israeli nay-say policy concerning any peace offer, including the Oslo accord.

‘After as many as 23 years, Israel has yet to meet any of commitments under the accord while the PA has upgraded its security coordination with the regime to highest possible levels,’ the Palestinian website deplored.

Regional analysts believe that France’s initiative is more an effort to stop the ongoing anti-occupation intifada than to promote peace.

They note the anti-occupation campaign has already turned into a source of insecurity and instability for the regime, prompting the western governments to struggle to prop up its security.
