Anti-occupation movement growing

American journalist Caleb Maupin says the idea that the Israelis are blameless victims has been widely refuted the world over and many who once strongly supported Israel are wavering. The journalist made the remarks while answering Qodsna questions on the latest Palestinian developments. The text of the interview follows.

Qodsna: What are the achievements and gains of the Resistance Movements in Palestine in the past year in the face of the Israeli occupation?

Maupin: International solidarity with the Palestinian people has drastically risen in the last few years. People all across Europe and the United States are newly critical of Israel, and open to standing with Palestine. The idea that the Israelis are blameless victims has been widely refuted, and many who once strongly supported Israel are wavering.

The movement for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions against Israeli corporations is become more popular. Israel's reputation as a violator of human rights is become more widespread.

Qodsna: Regarding the worsening of Israel’s situation in the international community and growing waves of protests against Israel during the past year, how do you see the current situation of Israel in terms of economy, diplomacy and security?

Maupin: As Israel's foreign policy gets more aggressive, and its diplomatic tone becomes more abrasive, it is beginning to lose credibility on the international stage.

Netanyahu's visit to the US Congress against the wishes of Obama made Israel into a polarizing question in US politics. Many Obama supporters suddenly became more open to solidarity with Palestine, as Israel linked itself with the extremist wing of the Republican Party.

While Israel attempts to portray itself as an innocent victim of "terrorism" from those who oppose it, this image is fading away. The crimes against the Palestinian people are being much more widely publicized by social media.
