Lieberman would incite further controversies

Avigdor Lieberman’s appointment as Israeli minister of military affairs is unprecedented as he is a first to take the post without having major military records, Palestine Today reported, adding however that the controversies over the appointment stem from Lieberman’s firebrand attitude rather than his inexperience.

The aily touched on the appointment of such other inexperienced individuals as Moshe Arens from Likud, Amir Peretz, from Labor and Shimon Peres in the post, adding the controversy over Lieberman will extend as it stems from his contentious records.

The daily also listed several challenges ahead of the firebrand figure, including a military aid deal with the US and the borders with Gaza and Lebanon.

Any new policy by Lieberman may lead to another war with Gaza or Lebanon or fan the waves of protests across the occupied West Bank, the daily suggested.

Lieberman may also adopt more pro-settlement policies as he himself is an illegal settler, the daily said, adding the likely policies would further anger the Palestinians.
