Israeli analysts say Tel Aviv op bore message for Lieberman

Two Israeli security analysts say the recent lightning anti-occupation operation in Tel Aviv by two Palestinians bore lessons for the newly-appointed, firebrand minister of military affairs, Avigdor Lieberman.

Amir Bohbot says the operation was instructive that extensive deliberation was needed in order to counter the deteriorating security situation in Israel.

The analyst with Walla website said Lieberman has realized he must move cautiously and avoid any action that may heighten tension in the occupied West Bank.

Bohbot said Israeli measures against the Palestinian activists, including demolition of their houses within 48 hours after every operation have proved futile rather they have furthered the tensions

“Lieberman knows a wave of operations is in sight in light of a gloomy prospect for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict combined with the desperation of young Palestinian generation,” he said.

Reflecting a similar tone, Ben Kasbit wrote in Maarive that Lieberman’s major challenge is how to counter minor Palestinian activists who stage anti-occupation operations.

The analyst said amid Lieberman’s threats to assassinated Gaza leader, Ismail Haniya, the Tel Aviv operation showed Haniya may have assassinated Lieberman sooner as the shots were fired in the vicinity of the ministerial office.

The analyst said Lieberman had met his security advisors and had got realized that his power had limits.

Maarive analyst added that Lieberman’s threats against the Palestinians would remain verbal as he faces young activists who are ready for martyrdom and has no affiliation to any political Palestinian groups.

The analyst said the Tel Aviv operation showed that the Palestinian resistance may last one hundred years more and that there is no end in sight for the anti-occupation operations.
