Why Abbas stonewalls Palestinian reconciliation
Fatah movement in recent years has made no serious efforts in order to advance the path of reconciliation with Hamas rather it has sought to manipulate the issue for other interests, according to the Palestinian website, al-Resala Net.
The website says four major factors have barred the two sides from reaching an agreement, all created by the acting PA head, Mahmoud Abbas .
For one thing, a national reconciliation would lead to the formation of a national unity government with all Palestinian groups involved, something that would emerge as an obstacle to the PA security collaboration with Israel.
Second, a national reconciliation would help resume the operation of such institutions as the PLO, the national parliament and the legislative council, barring Abbas from his authoritarian rule, including in his talks with Israel.
A national reconciliation would also boost the current anti-occupation intifada while Abbas and his forces have already spared no move in repressing the struggle.
And, finally, a national reconciliation would put an end to a multi-polar situation in Fatah unlike Abbas’ wishes.
Abbas considers a national reconciliation, already stalled for some ten years, as translating into his political demise, the website said.
