Gaza people enduring heat amid power cut
People in the besieged Gaza strip enjoy electricity only six hours a day amid high summer heat that is currently estimated at 40 Celsius degrees, Paltoday website reported.
The report came amid warning by the Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority that an electricity generator of Gaza’s sole power plant would stop working starting Thursday evening due to the PA's decision to reimpose the blue tax on electricity fuel.
The Energy Authority said in a statement that the Finance Ministry reneged on earlier agreements to cut the blue tax by 80% during Ramadan Month.
As a result the power company lost 12.5 million shekels of its financial sources.
The crisis has been exacerbated by a breakdown in the Egyptian power lines and an Israeli power line over the past few days.
The Energy Authority urged all concerned parties to cancel the taxes imposed on electricity fuel and to help in overcoming the crisis before it is too late.
