Prospect of Intifada in 2017

Palestinian website, Paltoday has inquired the views of several experts on the prospect of the current anti-occupation intifada in 2017.

A leader of the Islamic Jihad movement, Tareq Qa’dan said no one may predict the situation in 2017 or say the intifada would be expanded.

He added however that in 1987 too, no one could predict the expanse of intifada however a minor incident led to the mobilization of the entire Palestinian nation.

He said the Palestinian intifada would continue with individual operations, adding that the current intifada continued amid all sorts of PA security collaborations with the Israeli occupiers.

“Intifada would motivate the Palestinian sentiment and would lead to a major campaign,” he said.

For his part, Hamas representative in the occupied West Bank, Faez Warda deplored that the Palestinian groups have yet to use the youth-based intifada as a lever of pressure against Israel.

He called the PA actions and the Israeli repression as two factors thath keep intifada from growth, adding however that the popular move would expand in God’s favor.

And, deputy Palestinian legislative council, Hassan Khrisha said the intifada would continue in 2017.

He said the anti-occupation campaign was significant as it represents the anti-Israeli resistance, adding that the Israeli moves to contain it would only further fan it.
