Health conditions of female prisoners deteriorating due to medical negligence

The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) appealed to human rights institutions and international medical associations on Saturday to support the society in its demand to provide specialized medical committees as soon as possible to conduct necessary physical examinations for Palestinian women held in Zionist regime’s prisons whose medical conditions have deteriorated as a result of the policy of deliberate medical negligence practiced by the Israeli prisons authority (IPA).

The society said, "There is severe fear and worry over the lives and conditions of female prisoners, in which the IPA not only strips them of their freedom, but deliberately detains them in the most adverse conditions and situations causing their illness, while the IPA refrains from treating them, despite the seriousness of their situation and the direct effects of the conditions of incarceration, especially in the Damon prison, on their psychological and medical situation."

The society highlighted that it did not stop in its demand for the treatment of prisoners, but, "The IPA practices a policy of indifference, refuses to provide sufficient treatment, and continues to prevent specialist doctors from checking those sick prisoners."

The PPS holds the IPA fully responsible for the lives of the female prisoners, adding that female captive, Du'aa Al Jayyousi suffers from a sprained spine and severe pain in her joints and teeth.

Female inmate, Abeer Amr, suffers from backaches, irritation of the skin, and weight loss.  Inmate, Wurood Qasim suffers from a lasting case of tonsillitis, the effects of which have multiplied so much so that it now affects her movement.  Iman Ghazawi suffers from arthritis and a sinus allergy.  Inmate Lateefa Abu Dhiraa' suffers from fibers in her uterus and is also in urgent need of a gynecologist.

The society said that Aisha Abayat is in dire need of jaw surgery, which causes inflammation of both of her ears, and is a threat to her hearing. However, the IPA refuses to perform the operation.

Samood Karajeh suffers from severe dental problems, and is in need of a competent dentist to provide her the necessary treatment.  She suffers from a broken jaw and inflammation of the gums.  However, the IPA procrastinates in providing her with a doctor or the necessary treatment, the society concluded.
