Habibzadeh: General Assembly can replace Security Council if peace threatened
Faculty member of Imam Sadegh (PBUH) University in Iran said in case taht peace is threatened and UN Security Council proves incapable of keeping international security, the council can be replaced by UN General Assembly.
At a meeting on legal aspects of UN Goldstone report about Zionist regime’s war on Gaza which was held at the office of Iran-based Society in Defense of Palestinian Nation (SDPN), Tavakol Habib Zadeh, said “if UNSC under veto power fails to fulfill it duty in keeping peace and international security, the General Assembly based on resolution 377, 3 November 1950 can replace it.”
According to international law, in case of law violation and human rights crimes, the whole international community would be affected, he said.
On the Zionist regime’s 22-day war on Gaza, the whole international community incurred a loss and naturally the countries have a right to react against the crimes at national and international levels.
A fact-finding team from the United Nations has accused Zionist regime of committing war crimes in Gaza.
The report also accused Zionist regime of breaking international law by deliberately attacking civilians, using Palestinians as human shields and torturing detainees.
It added that the continuing Israeli blockade of Gaza could constitute persecution — a crime against humanity.
