UNGA head: ICC order makes mockery on justice
President of United Nations General Assembly, Father Miguel D'Escoto Brockmann, told Qodsna that an International criminal court (ICC) order against Omar al-Bashir, the Sudanese President makes a mockery on world Justice.
Brockman made the remarks in Tehran responding to Qodsna question during a press conference on his six-day visit to Iran.
Brockman, who is on his first visit to the Islamic Republic as president of the general assembly, hold meetings with top Iranian officials and will attend an international economic summit in Tehran on Wednesday.
He condemned the assaults by Israeli occupying forces against the Palestinian people, particularly during 22-day war in Gaza.
He urged Arab League and African Union to exert pressure on UN to prevent the court ruling.
'Israeli crimes is especially of such magnitude that should not go without responding', Brockman stressed, adding 'they (Israelis) will soon be present in special sessions of general assembly and respond to the international community demands."
Brockman also called for the trial of former U.S. president Bush for committing war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. "No doubt U.S. has committed big crimes in these countries but the UN failed to take any practical actions against it," he regretted.
President of United Nations General Assembly criticized U.S. for blackmailing UN Security Council.
