The primary purpose of Durban II is to play up the effects of 'Durban I'

UN Association's Syrian member told Qodsna that Durban II seeks to play up the effects of 'Durban I' as its primary purpose and and to prevent condemnation of Zionisam as racism.

Durban I ended on September in three days before the September 11 terrorist events of New York and Washington, he noted.

He believed that September 11 events overshadowed 'Durban I' conference.

The conference was boycotted by U.S. and Israel, Syrian UN envoy reminded, adding the boycott was because the NGOs took a decision that the UN resolution 371 should be reinstated which equals Zionism with racism.

NGOs in 'Durban I' took the decision that the resolution in the harmony with the facts in Palestine so they decided to reinstate it, former member of Syrian parliament said.

"Since the U.S. and Israel was against this resolution they decided not to participate so they boycotted it."

Pointing to the changes in the final text of Durban II conference, Professor Jabour said there are two amendments in the conference. "The first one is that Israel should not be mentioned as Zionist. The second one is that they decided that Palestine should not be mentioned as the victim of racism at all," Jabour added.
