Chinkin: Mission members considering Goldstone retraction
A member of the UN fact finding mission for the 22-day Israeli war on Gaza told Qudsna Friday that the group was considering an unexpected retraction by Richard Goldstone, head of the mission, on the report and will announce their position in days.
Christine Chinkin made the remarks in an email interview after Goldstone unexpectedly said last week he was pursuing to annul the report, currently a UN document and under consideration by the UN human rights council. The council however has rejected his remarks and said it could continue work on the document.
In a further twist to the issue, Goldstone said Wednesday he was not deciding to annul the report and that rejected Israeli Interior Minister Eli Yishai’s remarks that he holds intentions for the annulment as false claims.
There are several reports however that the group members are under heavy pressure by Zionist lobby over the report. Chinkin, a professor of international law at LSE, is currently on leave.
