Veteran female Palestinian activist: Palestine, could only be liberated through martyrdom

Mariyam Mohammad Yousef Farhat, known as Um Nazal, is a veteran female Palestinian activist. The veteran activist was born in Gaza in December 24, 1949. He has mothered six sons of whom three laid their lives in the struggle against the Zionist regime. They were Nazal Farhat, Mohamad Farhat and Ravad Farhat.

The other three sons are members of the al-Qassam brigades the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, with one of them held in the Israeli captivity for 11 years. The Palestinian veteran currently serves as member of the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Um Nazal believed that she has handed his sons in the path of Allah, adding that martyrdom was imperative for the Palestinians until Palestine is freed from occupation.

Asked about the attitude of his sons towards  martyrdom, Um Nazal said martyrdom was flowing like blood in the arteries of his son. “They consider no value for carnal desires when it comes to the case of Palestinian ordeals,” she added.

The veteran female activist said Palestine could only be freed through martyrdom rather then compromise.

His martyr sons, Nazal Farhat, Mohamad Farhat and Ravad Farhat were 32, 19 and 17 in time of martyrdom respectively with Nazal having four daughters and two sons.

Asked about the Egyptian developments, Um Nazal said rays of hope were shining for the Palestinians one after another. “The time of the despots have come to an end. This is God’s desire to wrap up the period of tyrants,” she said.

Um Nazal said the world of Islam was abundant with women who have handed their children in the path of Allah. She especially singled out the Iranian nation.
