Iranian experts talk about future of Egypt

Many experts believe that the popular uprisings in some Middle East countries and Africa has been the immediate fruits of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and that the revolution has an Islamic nature though the west attempts to link the protests to economic issues.

The Quds News Agency has interviewed several Iranian experts in international affairs concerning the nature and future of the uprisings.

Secretary General of the Society in Defense of the Palestinian Nation called the uprisings as political after-shakes of the Islamic Revolution in Iran (1979), adding that the aftershakes have emerged with a 32 year delay since the Arab societies were lagging behind the Iranian society in terms of political maturity.

Mojtaba Rahmandoust said the developments viewed through the prism of the Palestinian issue has been a source of concern for the Zionist regime as it is going to lose its staunchest allies in the region (Egypt) which means a shaky control of the Gaza Strip in case of coming to power of a democratic government.

The SDPN official said the US and Israel will make their utmost to keep Hosni Mubarak in place and the Egyptian should keep vigilance to avert such a plan.

Hussein Rooyvaran, an expert in Middle East affair believed that the west seeks to ruin the Egyptian revolution through superficial reforms.

He said what took place in Tunisia proved that the ruling regimes can change and that people can change the status quo.

He called Egypt as a major source of impact in the Palestinian arena, adding that an Egyptian withdrawal from the Palestinian issue paralyzed the Palestinian side and for the same reason, any change of the status quo would translate into losses for the US and Israel.

Rooyvaran appreciated the Egyptian revolutionists for their successful mobilization of Egyptian people from different walks of life, adding however that in the 85 million Egyptian population the revolution would be bucketful only if 40 million march.

He also noted that lack of leadership is a major problem for the Egyptian drive adding however that they will gradually find a leadership.

An Iranian expert in Zionism for his part said the Egyptian revolution would be triumphed if they form a united ideology and leadership based on Islam.

Ali Zare’ Fekri said the Egyptian have rose up against a west’s crony regime, adding that though the drive is affected by the Islamic Revolution, its track has yet to be fully Islamic in nature.

He said the Egyptian protestors are of different ideologies and suffer lack of a united leadership. “They only have a consensus that Mubarak must go out,” he said.

He said the change of Mubarak regime would be in the interest of the world of Islam, adding that in case of united leadership the Arab intifada would spread into the Palestinian area, challenging the western de[pendent government of Mahmoud Abbas.

“It will also disrupt the Arab peace plan and the trend of compromise with the Zionist regime,” he said in describing the possible effects of a Mubarak change, adding that any such change would insecure the Israeli borders and would intimidate the Zionist community.

The expert warned that in case the Egyptian people fail to reach a united leadership, the Zionist regime would ride the wave of their revolution and would push the population towards concession to the rule of Army.
