Israeli threats of Gaza occupation are hollow

Mehdi Shakibayi: Unlike Israeli threats to launch a new war on Gaza in response to Palestinian missile operations and a recent bombing operation in al-Quds which was unprecedented at least for the past seven years, the regime finds itself unable to execute its threats and due to several reasons.

For one thing, any new war on Gaza would be incredible and impossible in light of the recent popular uprisings in the Arab countries as Arab people among others are angry over the trend of normalization of ties with the Zionist regime as well as the participation of the governments, some of them currently ousted, in holding Gaza under a siege.

Following any military occupation of Gaza, the regime has to face enraged Arab people as well fledgling governments who have taken tgheir legitimacy from the same enraged people. A mass summoning of ambassadors would take place in the wake of any occupation in the first place and Mujahid people would ready themselves for a counter attack on Israel.

Israel too would find itself more on a looser international position following any such attacks. The world tends to consider the regime as a rogue state and many members of the UN general assembly members have already joined a call for expulsion of the regime’s ambassador.
 
The regime also has another reason to avoid any military occupation as clocks tick to May 15, the day when international activists have a plan to send a second Fleet of Freedom’s aid ships to bust the siege on Gaza. The regime still has the diplomatic specter of its ill-thought move in slaughtering of activists over the Marmara ship in the first Fleet of Freedom action.

For another reason, a new war on Gaza would open the front for a full scale war with Arab countries with resistance forces involved, from Hezbollah to Syria, and even Egypt.

Given the above, one could consider Benjamin Netanyahu's threats of launching "fateful operations" on Palestinian resistance as a psychological warfare, categorically aimed for internal consumption.
