A right, fallen on deaf ears
Return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland has long been a key issue in the developments of the occupied Palestine and remained a bone of contention in the Palestinian crisis. The right on the other hand has been highlighted in the UN resolution 194 and a major Arab initiative in 2005.
The Zionist regime however has so far has used through EU backing and UN silence to refuse to recognize the right. But a major point of note was raised when George W. Bush the American President called for the accommodation of the Palestinian refugees in the Arab countries.
The proposal was in line with the Zionist regime's interests as the regime is grappling with a demographic crisis especially with a reverse immigration from the Zionist settlements.
Tel Aviv fears that the return of refugees could prompt the world community to put an end to Zionist occupation. The refugees also pose a threat to the regime by their possible joining to the Palestinian resistance.
The Zionists have decided to remove any possibilities of a return by identifying themselves as a 'Jewish state' and the Bush's proposal is a step towards the formation of such an entity.
