Opinion: Direct Israeli involvement in the Syrian crisis
Mehdi Shakibayi: A series of regional developments in the past few months especially in Syria has been going to change the political equation in favor of the axis of resistance against the world Zionism that stretches from Iran to Syria bordering the 1948-faked entity of ‘Israel.’
The developments include the climb-down of the anti-Syrian coalition of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, America, and France from their aggressive stance against Syria, the newer massive victories of the Syrian army against the armed rebels and terrorists, growing differences in the Syrian opposition and meaningful absence of Moaz al-Khatib, the chief of the so-called transitional government. All these developments show a change of position in the anti-Syrian force.
For the same reason, Israel as a key element of the force that may reap most benefits from an ouster of the Syrian government has seen itself on the loss amid the political developments with Benjamin Netanyahu, who won the elections albeit with a weak result, being on defensive in the face of the developments.
American President Barack Obama is reportedly going to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. This is the first time the two meet with one another after being reelected in presidential elections. They may seek as they have already signaled to settle several international disputes including the Syrian crisis, the trend of Middle East developments and the peaceful Iranian nuclear program.
A surprise attack on the Syrian territory may be a favorable option for Tel Aviv regime to blunt the sharp edge of the developments to some extent. The Thursday aerial attack by the Zionist warplanes on a research center in Syria may more than anything point to deteriorating relations between Netanyahu and Obama and show the Zionist regime’s concerns about emerging developments in favor of the resistance axis even though they claim to be warning the world about the alleged Syrian chemical stockpiles.
Israel has grabbed the grievances among several Arab countries concerning the Syrian developments to launch the attack, knowing that few of them may protest against the regime.
