Gaza paper: Jordanian King was assuming Mubarak’s role in compromise talks

A Gaza-based paper slammed Jordan's King Abdullah for hosting the talks between Israeli and PA envoys this week.

Mustafa Sawaf, editor-in-chief of the Gaza-based, Felesteen, criticized the King for his support of the compromise talks between Israeli and Palestinian Authority officials.

In his editorial, Sawaf said the Jordanian King was assuming Mubarak’s role in sponsoring compromise negotiations between the PA and Zionist regime. Sawaf said that doing so harms the rights of Palestinian Arabs and would lead to the King being dethroned since, as he put it, “Whoever declares war on Allah will eventually go away.”

The editorial came following the meeting in Amman earlier this week between Israeli envoy Yitzhak Molcho and PA negotiator Saeb Erekat.

Sawaf also wrote that the PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas was not serious in his recent reconciliation talks with Hamas’ politburo chief Khaled Mashaal. He maintained that the purpose of the talks was to return to the negotiating table with Israel, adding Abbas simply wants to appease the U.S. and Europe.

Earlier this week, Hamas leader Ismail Radwan said that the talks with Israeli envoys in Amman would damage Fatah's reconciliation deal with the terror group.

"We consider these meetings a blow for national reconciliation, especially as we agreed in Cairo to face Israel's settlements, wall, and attacks together," Radwan said.
