Qodsna (Tehran) - Fathi Shaqaqi (1951 –1995) was the co-founder and Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine. He was assassinated in Malta by Mossad agents, on October 26, 1995.
Shortly after the Iranian Revolution, Shaqaqi wrote a book, "Imam Khomeini, The Islamic Solution and the Alternative", which praised Ayatollah Khomeini and his approach to an Islamic state. In Shaqaqi's view the Khomeini victory "demonstrated that even against an enemy as powerful as the Shah, a jihad of determined militants could overcome all obstacles."
He brought Islamic values into the Palestinian resistance by establishing the Islamic Jihad Movement. The new approach had significant effects on achieving major victories for the Palestinian people.
With the martyrdom of Fathi Shaqaqi, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in a condolence message on his martyrdom said:
The bloody scene of the Islamic struggles of Palestine was once again facing villainy with the unjust bloodshed of its jihadist soldier and one who with a heart of faith and sincerity, was martyred by murderous usurpers. The Zionists devoid of dignity once again proved that they legitimize murder and crime for their illegitimate purposes.
Dr. Fathi Shaqaqi was one of the brilliant figures who created the dawn of the Islamic struggles of the Palestinian people in the last decade and put all his strength, ability, and now his dear soul on this holy jihad.
