Palestinians deserve to live as free
people in their homeland

Declan Hayes

On the occasion of the anniversary of International Quds Day, Irish political analyst Dr. Declan Hayes said that Palestinians have the right to live freely in their homeland.

“Although the Palestinians deserve their day (and more), there is a real problem in tokenism, which Israel can tolerate. Palestinians deserve to live as free people in their homeland,” Hayes said.

In response to a question about the reason that the Zionist regime was described as a “cancerous tumor” by Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Revolution, the Irish figure noted that “Israel is certainly not an ordinary nation that has grown organically as most nations have. It was conceived as a concept in nineteenth century Europe and brought into being and sustained by foreign powers colluding in the ethnic cleansing of the natives.”

“As those foreign powers continue to collude in extending Israel's hard and soft power reaches, Israel can be aptly described as a malignant cancer,” he added.

He then also talked about Iran’s proposal for holding a referendum in the occupied territories, which would require original residents, whether Muslim, Jew, or Christian, to determine their own future.

Referring to Western ignorance towards the proposal, Declan Hayes stressed that “Western pro-democratic (sic) states have a big problem with votes they don't like. We have seen this in Gaza in Venezuela, in Bolivia and we will see it again next month in Syria when President Assad is re-elected. Israel, like Saudi Arabia, is a Western creation the West will not allow fail unless they have no other choice.”

“Palestine shows the lie of Western democracy for anyone who chooses not to be blind. There are huge Western vested interests in keeping people willfully blind and there are huge costs for those who choose not to be blind to the West's war crimes,” he added.

The Irish political expert also described the so-called ‘Deal of Century’ as a “diversion”, saying that “Trump, like all US Presidents since Eisenhower, has helped solidify Israel's colonization project. The Palestinians are not in a position to agree to a deal.”

He then answered to a question about the social awareness in Ireland about Israel’s war crimes and its occupation practices, underlining that “although Ireland and Sweden are supposed to be the two most pro-Palestinian countries in Europe, I would dispute that in the case of Ireland at least. Israel has a lot of institutional and soft power support and, in my opinion, that most than negates the largely empty noise supposed supporters of the Palestinians make through their various groups, many of which are infiltrated by an array of intelligence agencies.”

“One can see this in such matters as European football competitions or the Eurovision song contest where Israel is not only allowed compete but compete without protests. One also sees it in protests against racism in sport where Beitar Jerusalem never faces robust criticism. Israel's many allies ensure no such criticism ever gains the necessary traction and critical mass,” he added.
