Israel seeks to use
change of gov't in Iran

Akram Atallah

U.S. Central Intelligence Agency director William Burns for the first time since assuming office, visit Israel and held talks on Wednesday with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, with Iran high on their agenda.

Burns, who was sworn in as CIA director in March, also meet Palestinian officials, including President Mahmoud Abbas, in the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

Regional tensions have risen over an attack on July 29 on an Israeli-managed tanker off the coast of Oman that Israel, the United States and Britain blamed on Tehran.

Iran has denied any involvement in the suspected drone strike in which two crew members - a Briton and a Romanian - were killed.

US intelligence official’s visit to Israel, coincided with world powers’ talks and Joint Commission in Vienna about Iran's nuclear case and the events in Iraq and Syria and the process of fighting terrorism in these two countries and the establishment of a new government in the Islamic Republic. Iran, led by Ibrahim Raisi.

Speaking with Qods News Agency, Palestinian author and political analyst Akram Atallah said Burns' presence in the region is crucial both for him in his first trip to Israel since assuming office as CIA director, and for the United States and Israel, which are in a difficult period in the region.

"This meeting carried out not only due to Mr. Ra'isi taking power as the president in Iran, but also for another reason that is the" dead end in the nuclear talks. Israel seeks to use the opportunity of the Iranian government’s change, the government that oppose relying on negotiations with the United States. Israel also wants to make permanent the dead end in the nuclear talks”, he added.

"Undoubtedly, Netanyahu's (Zionist regime’s former prime minister’s) threats against Iran's nuclear capability and the country's 10-week distance with the production of a nuclear bomb have prompted US officials to meet with the Zionist regime's officials. The process of provoking the United States toward some Arab leaders in the region has long been on the agenda of the Israeli Foreign Ministry and Tel Aviv intends to mobilize the international community against Iran”, Atallah told qodsna.

Israel not only seeks to thwart negotiations, but also seeks to maximize sanctions and economic blockade against Iran and even prepare the grounds for an attack on Iran. Meanwhile, Biden and Bennett, despite the fact that the media claims that there is a rift between them, which is really the case, have signed a contract that in any way they want to take action against Iran or in cooperation with it (only by the United States), let them inform each other, and this is one of the reasons why such important meetings take place, Palestinian expert noted.
